As I was walking on state street, a new place caught my eye, J-Petal. Claiming to serve Japanese Crepes and Thai Ice Cream, I decided to go in and give it a shot. The place had a very comfortable feeling to it and I immediately went to grab a menu. I was a little overwhelmed as I looked through the menu and noticed I had never seen anything quite like the items listed. There was a sweet and savory portion to the menu, but having a sweet tooth, I decided to try one of the fruit crepes.
J Petal Sweet Crepes
I have so far tried two different kinds of crepes at J-Petal. I tried one of the popular items at the time, the J-Petal Cocktail. It contains Strawberry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Banana, Mango, Whipped Yogurt, Custard Cream, Crunch Pistachio, Nutella. It was quite the combination and I was excited to try it out.

It did not disappoint. I was a little unsure how to eat it at first, but then just went right in and ate it like an ice cream cone. The flavors really worked well together and it was the perfect dessert. I had to try another one a few days later, as I wanted to try one with some ice cream in it.

I tried the Fruit Island which contained Strawberry, Banana, Kiwi, Almond, Vanilla Ice Cream, Whipped Yogurt, Custard Cream, Chocolate Pocky Stick. It also did not disappoint. I really liked the ice cream addition and thought it went perfectly with the fruits and crepe. It is my favorite so far, but I still have many more to try.
J Petal Savory Crepes
J-Petal also offers a variety of “savory crepes”. I had never really seen combinations like this in Madison. They contain different kinds of meat and vegetables all wrapped in a crepe. I have not yet tried one of these, but the Crab Crepe and Shrimp & Avocado are on my list of ones to try.
J Petal Rolled Ice Cream
This is another part of the menu I have not yet tried, but looks to contain some amazing dishes. They offer a good range of options from Vanilla Ice Cream mixed with Strawberry & Oreo to Green Tea Ice Cream with Banana & Oreo, topped with Whipped Cream, Walnut, Toasted Marshmellow & Caramel.
Here is some more information on J-Petal Madison. With so many unique options, this is definitely a place worth checking out, and one I will be revisiting many times.
